Platanos bottle packaging
Platanos is a laddered packaging design concept for a Cretan tsikoudia distillery located in the mountain village of Armeni, Crete in Greece. This concept features a high tier, custom designed bottle shape and collector's box, as well as a mid-tier, 'off the shelf' bottle shape. The Platanos is an ancient tree standing in the heart of the village, dating back hundreds of years and is the main focus of the packaging design, lending itself to the material selection, forms, and overall look and feel.
Each high tier bottle is hand blown and sculpted with an undulating and ropey design, mirroring the knots and bark patterns seen in the Platanos tree. The bottom portion is then airbrushed white, again mirroring the trees found in the village - as each tree trunk is painted white to protect it from insects and decay. Each bottle is then dipped in wax and sealed to preserve freshness. The high tier box is cylindrical, made from fine wood with a rose gold inlay.
The mid-tier packaging features the Platanos tree embossed into the front of the bottle along with the logo. The labeling is made from embroidered linen, giving our tsikoudia a rustic island village feel, while still allowing for a feeling of modern sophistication.
